Namarrkon: Arnhem Land, Australia. This dude has lightning bolts coming out of his head and hammers on his knees and arms; and shows up just before the monsoon season. Sheltered amongst the sandstone caves of Nourlangie Rockin Kakadu National park, known as "Burrungguy" to Aboriginal people, are the ancient art sites of the Gagadju. Here the rock paintings tell the story of the fiery Dreamtime spirit who lives high in the clouds, "Namarrkon" the lightning man. Arched across Namarrkon's shoulders are the lightning bolts with which he opens the skies and slashes the earth. Growing from his elbows and knees are the stone axes with which he creates the thunder that announces to the Gagadju the birth of another seasonal cycle called Gunumeleng. Fifth in a series of a mural painted in Granada, depicting the history of Nicaragua. At first, it seems peaceful between the old world and the new, but the details are interesting - Eve's snake nipping at the toes of the Virgin; nightfall of civilzation and sunrise on war - with a lady in a ballgown aiming a cannon.

Ahhh.....the indigenous guy is working. Looks like slavery. Meanwhile, Europeans in pointed hats appear to be directing the show. This could be where "Papal Bull" comes from.

Why another blog? Because I wanted to be a Renaissance Man when I grew up.

I just discovered I needed a place to put miscellaneous artwork. Stuff that doesn't fit into Industrial Art - a depository for my passion for the industrial landscape; Diapositive the place where photographs that pass a minimum degree of inspection end up; Aunt Alice's Art Room Yes, I get paid to teach art, too!; and Trying So Very Hard to Be Perfect - your basic Dear Diary for words, the occasional thought, and the odd meme that makes it's way from my friend's blogs.

In reality, most everything ends up in one black sketcbook, although recently, I diversified for the travel ones. You'll see a lot of Costa Rica and Nicaragua - until I get bored, or go somehwere else, or have an odd day with the glue stick.
